American Conservative Voices 5/23 meeting S.474 – the Fetal Heartbeat Act
May 23, 2023 @ 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

EXTRA, EXTRA 5/15/23 READ ALL ABOUT IT
The pro-life lawsuit alleging that the Food and Drug Administration improperly approved the abortion-inducing pill mifepristone will be heard by a panel of three Republican –appointed judges on May 17th. The controversial drug is used in more than half of abortions committed in the US, which means taking it off the market would massively reduce the nation’s abortion rate.
The New Orleans-based appeals court panel that will oversee the next stage in this legal challenge has a Trump appointee who has called abortion a moral tragedy.
H.3774 – Human Life Protection Act. After the S.C. House passed this bill with an 83-31 majority vote, the Senate failed to pass the bill on April 27. Instead, a handful of Republican senators filibustered the bill and blocked it from passing. After the N. C. House passed legislation protecting life at 12 weeks post conception, the S.C. agreed to take up S.474 – the Fetal Heartbeat Act. This bill protects our state from becoming the abortion destination of the southeast since Florida and Georgia have stricter abortion bans.
The bill was sent to the House Judiciary Constitutional Laws Subcommittee and later to the full committee. The full Judiciary Committee passed it with a favorable report by a 16-7 party-line vote. Because the current legislative session came to an end, Governor McMaster called for a special session of the General Assembly to pass S.474.
House speaker Murrell Smith released a statement: “We are going to come back on 5/16 and be prepared to be here for as long as it takes…. We’re going to get through that bill and have a final vote on that bill”.
It is vital that we contact our Senators and get this bill passed.
Come to Friendly’s on 5/23 to hear what SC is doing about this subject.
